Losing Me. Finding Me.

Losing Me. Finding Me.

Losing my marblesLosing heart Losing my religionLosing sight Losingmy wayLosing ground Tonight I was reminded of a song by Chicago MC Add-2 called Losing Me.  The song chronicles a personal journey of man who at odds with himself.  Through his own personal battles he is fighting to keep sight of his identity and purpose. The song begins like this.. I’m trying to find peace, in every line between my rhymes and beats/Between my God and Momma, I’m just trying to honor each/I more »

Elliott featured on Ebony.com

When it comes to Black American expatriates, we usually get visions of Josephine Baker taking Paris by storm—we never think of South Korea. I felt that way myself when I moved there in the Aughties. Fresh out of law school, I wanted a couple of years to live abroad and travel. With South Korea, I knew I was going to a country where I wouldn’t run into a lot of people who looked like me. To read the article please more »

A Drama

Because I love you, burn me Ashes Because I love you, cut me Gashes Rip my heart out Only the Grand Weaver can stitch me Patchless But why do all dramas end tragic? Holding on to one page Out of many chapters Switch scenes, wardrobe & actors But it seems we can never get back ta The time Blinded by the now It’s shrunken in the shroud Yet somehow,  everything but me knows its place The reason I love comedy, cause I know they end  Smiley face

    Chris Rock is unpatriotic!

Every July 4th families across the nation celebrate freedom by spending time with one another and partaking in bbq’s, apple pie and fireworks. Fireworks echo the sounds and sparks of cannons that blasted on a battlefield over 200 years ago that paid for our freedom. This year comedian Chris Rock decided to light a firework of his own with his tweet on July 4th. “Happy White peoples independence day the slaves weren’t free but I’m sure they enjoyed fireworks.” This tweet was more »

    I HOPE this doesn’t disappoint

“Trusting in someone who is made of flesh and blood, such a frightful situation.  Continual, emotional, intensive care is from too high expectations.” -Fred Hammond A few weeks ago I had lunch with the lovely Ms. Lauren.  We talked about life, love and our time in Korea. During the discussion Lauren said something that struck a chord of confusion in me.  She said something to the effect that life is much more fulfilling when we live with no expectations.  My more »

    Jesus, Rihanna & the Rain

Stupid rain, I thought, as I left the radio station with DJ Tom Slick and Kate.  Looking over at both of them and their umbrellas I realized that the only stupid one was me.  I tried to edge under Tom’s umbrella as we walked to the corner to catch a cab.  Fifteen minutes later I gave Tom a hi five because we finally managed to grab a cab to Itaewon.  SMH.  Tom had to spin at Boom Bar and I more »

  • Walk Regular

    Walk Regular

Drops in a bucket, words on a page, all considered precious to the eyes of a sage. Everything speaks to the man who listens, many people seek many things but many forget wisdom. Dying the death of emptiness because they live life of safety. Small steps, followed by shallows breaths, no mis steps because they did everything the right way. Walked the fine line to avoid error, plagued by the terror of the possibility. What will one find, if they walk more »

  • Candy Grams Anyone?

    Candy Grams Anyone?

My introduction to Valentine’s Day gift giving started in grade school.  Selling grams for Valentines was an easy way for  the school clubs to make money.  Valentine’s day was also an easy way to express the Love .  Fifty cents and few words on a candy gram and it was a done deal.  Can’t we go back to those days?  I’m jus sayin.. Buying a candy gram on Valentine’s Day was a way for you to express your secret love more »

    V-Day 1.1

Most of the time when I hear domestic violence brought up in a conversation it’s either a joke or ends in one.  Far too often I have been apart of it. Nothing about domestic violence is funny.  Nothing a woman can do calls for a man to strike her.  The more we laugh and joke about this issue, the less likely we are to take it seriously when it happens…(should shrug)…(s**** happens)..and a thousand other phrases we use to remove more »

    Ben Breedlove

Life is precious and I think it is so easy to take for granted. I just watched a video that made me reflect about the fragility of life.  The video was made by a young man named Ben Breedlove who passed away on Christmas night due to a serious heart condition he battle with since birth. I’m always moved when a young person dies but perhaps what moves me more than his death is his life. In his 18 years more »

    Airport Flow

I had to hit the airport flow & talk about my recent trip to Hong Kong to see Scholar Lee.  My homie from back home was  3 hrs away so I flew out to catch up with him & see more of China.  But the traveling process is never easy for me because of lines, checkpoints & procedures.  I know they serve a valuable function and in the end the pain is outweighed by the pleasure of traveling.  To all more »

    Dress Code for Blacks

Watch his  interview clip, it provides a better context to the situation. Preface: One of the challenges of talking about race online is that it is very easy to miss the target.  It’s easy to preach to the choir and not win any converts when talking about issues that evoke emotion.  For me, it’s difficult to remove myself emotionally and to be objective all the time.  Plus, my writing lends it self to being sensational and relying on generalizations.  Hopefully more »
